In March, 2021 Churrasco Brazilian Steakhouse was nominated by the readers of the Reno Gazette Journal for the Best New Restaurant in Reno as part of the Best of Reno 2021. These awards celebrate and recognize the best our community has to offer in many different categories.

Churrasco Brazilian Steakhouse was voted the Best New Restaurant in 2021 along with two other restaurants. But which one of the three best received the most votes? We will find out in May, 2021 at the Gala celebration. All of the top category winners will be recognized in a special print and online section once the #1 winner is announced.  Then we can say we were the #1-#3 best new restaurant in Reno instead of sharing the category equally. Either way, it’s a great honor and we thank you.

2020 was a difficult year for businesses around the world, but restaurants in particular took a pretty good beating. Before Churrasco even opened, the restaurant had over 4000 followers on social media asking when the restaurant would finally open. It was to be the first and only authentic Brazilian Steakhouse in Northern Nevada. (There was one in Reno several years prior). Owned by Brazilian immigrants, Churrasco had to be authentic to the core. The beautiful mahogany Fresh Market Table and Charcoal Grill were both imported from Brazil. The restaurant took a year to remodel, and the experienced management team moved from Las Vegas, NV to open what was to be Reno’s only authentic rodizio grill in February, 2020. The grand opening with the Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce was cancelled three times due to various issues, but the final blow was Covid-19. Although we were open and serving to all of our new fans, on March 16th the restaurant was shut down cold. The entire inventory of meats and other fresh vegetables and dishes ordered for the busy week ahead had to be donated to local charities. The staff who were just learning the craft of cooking and slicing the meats like a true Brazilian Gaucho were all laid-off. A year in the making and everything came to a screeching halt in order to help keep the staff and the community healthy.

When the restaurant opened again in June at 50% capacity, many new safety procedures had to come into play in order to follow state directives. The restaurant team had many “out of the box” ideas that helped the doors stay open, including hiring a server to serve from the fresh market table in gloves and a mask so that the buffet could stay open when all buffets were still forced to close down; and a new delivery menu was initiated to help serve the community and keep them safe while helping the revenue stream to keep the rent paid. While many restaurants were unfortunately lost all over the world, Churrasco was able to stay open and it continues to serve hungry guests. The restaurant continues to receive lots of social media check-in’s, Instagram posts and great reviews.

“American’s LOVE authentic Brazilian spin roasted charcoal grilled meats and the traditional Rodizio (all you can eat) dining experience,” said Edson Pereira, co-owner of Churrasco Brazilian Steakhouse. “People come for the experience of non-stop meats sliced right off the skewers tableside,” he added.
